I’ve found this to be helpful to me in my career. It was originally printed in Business Week on July 18, 1988 and was written by Scott McNealy, then president of Sun Microsystems, Inc.

On Decision-Making: Consensus if possible, but participation for sure.

On Management Cooperation: Agree and commit, disagree and commit – or just get the hell out of the way.

On Responding to the Market: The right answer is the best answer. The wrong answer is second-best. No answer is the worst.

On Individual Initiative: To ask permission is to seek denial.
